Can allergies affect lymph nodes

Category: Allergies

Painful, how to tell if I have muscle knots or lymph nodes infection?

Everyday the pain has been getting worse, I have a large round lump at the back of my neck. I got a massage today hoping it was just a muscle knott that would go away. Its still there and it still hurts. I read about lymph nodes and I have had the worst allergies ever, so I am thinking it might be an infected lypmph nodes. I have an appt to get accupunture treatment om Thursday and I hope it will be determined which of the two it is. But for now I would like to know if anyone knows what the side affects are to either one? And besides Tylenol is there any help for pain. I'm hoping it isn't something more serious, cause I feel like my eyes are on fire, my head hurts and my back is killing me. My neck has gotten a rash and it comes and goes. If anyone knows or has had either one can you please respond. I'm kinda freaked out.

Swollen lymph nodes for a year and three months...HELP !?

Lets just start out by saying i have real dry skin (eczema) and dandruff, basically all my life. But in july of 2009 i broke out on my face, ears and scalp, it was really dry and pealing and kind of a burning sensation. I noticed when i broke out swollen lymph nodes came up behind my ears and on the back of my hair line i'd say. Went to the doctor and she gave me elidel cream for my face, so i took put it on my face and it worked with in a few days my skin started clearing up and the lymph node on the back of my hairline slowly went down over a month's period and the node behind my right ear went down a little but never went all the way down. So september of 2009 rolls around and i noticed 2 lymph nodes on my neck, the right and left side. I went back to the doctor and she didnt do anything about it. Then around the summer of 2010 i noticed a swollen lymph node kind of close my jaw and neck, and i went to the doctor and she said it was about 3cm but didnt say anything about the nodes on my neck and behind my ear. So september of 2010 i went to a new doctor and prescribed steriods along with allergy/sinus medicine. I took the steriods and after a week the lymph node on the right side went down just a little bit but still noticble and the node close to my neck/jaw went down some, also the steriod had side affect which gave me a stye in my right eye or eye infection i couldnt tell but it was swollen and my eye had a little bump under my eyelid. I dont know what the steriods was for but i would sure like to know?????? they are called "MethylPREDNISOLONE TABLETS, USP 4 mg. Now i'm noticing the node on my left which was never really to swollen all of a sudden gotten a tiny bit bigger but stil not to noticable. Recently i've been a little nauseated which i think is from stressing so much but the nauseation went away after a few days, alos back in march i took a nap for about an hour and noticed my arms where really numb and they where popping, that went on for about a week and a half but never came back and i have a short about of hairloss which has accured since i broke out in july of 2010 (see pics). Now i'm gettin worried i dont know what to do or to think, i'm only 18 and i feel perfectly fine at the moment. Also the node under close to my jaw/neck is soft tender not hard, the node behind my ear is hard, the node on the left side of my neck which would i consider the smallest is kind of soft, the node on the right which would be the most noticble and has gone down a little is like kind soft but when i tilt my head its kind of tender and hard at the same time and when my head is up straight i can like push my finger in the node like move it in and out. but here ar some pics of the nodes

DO THEY LOOK SERIOUS???

The most noticeble node on the left, have two pics (front/side view)

I don’t look at people’s links unless I know you and unless these imagines are ultrasounds or CT they are useless. If they are professional images the report will tell you if they look serious by the expert that read them and your doctor would have told you.
It sounds like your lymph nodes are doing what they are supposed to do. You concern should be your allergies and skin problems. If you take care of that the lymph nodes will take care of themselves.

Swollen lymph nodw under jaw on either side of the bones of the throat.?

The lymph nodes under my jaw have been swollen for over a month, but they returned to normal size after I stopped messing with them every day. However, I noticed that the one on the right can be hard at times. Sometimes it's soft and squishy, but the more I mess with it the harder it will feel. I don't have any other hard or swollen nodes, nor do I have any other symptoms of lymphoma; still I find myself concerned as I'm eighteen, right within the age range. I feel quite healthy, and have, in fact been more active than usual. I'm aware that no one can diagnose me over the internet, but I can't particularly afford a trip to a credibile doctor at the moment and I'm looking for some reassurance on the whole matter. I should also probably state that the node is entirely mobile and not fixed in one place. I have seasonal allergies, ie. a slight cold that will come and go, but no severe flare ups other than the occasional build up of phlegm in my throat. Could this have any affect on my lymph node, and if so why is it localized to only one side of my jaw? In ant case I'll be entirely grateful to anyone who can offer some assistance.

It sounds nothing like lymphoma. Leave it alone.

Is this illness a virus or bacteria? wondering if i need to go to the doctor for antibiotics?

i don't want to go out if i don't have to. we have terrible weather out there right now.

first..i sat next to a guy who was sick on the plane on saturday. he was coughing the whole time. there was nowhere to move to :/

sunday i felt fine.

monday i felt fine.

tuesday (yesterday), i woke up with a sore throat and attributed it to allergies. it lasted all day which is not typical with a sore throat from allergies. along with the sore throat all day, my chest felt a little weak, and i got little panging pains in my lymph nodes on my neck in the evening. aside from that i felt fine.

today i woke up with the same sore throat, and sore ears. by noon i was stuffy, had a headache, sneezy, and have body aches and chills, and my chest feels quite weak when i breathe (i have asthma that doesn't respond to any medication so my lungs are probably easily affected by any infection long before other people notice any symptoms). i'm getting panging pains on my temples, all around my head, and in the back of my neck from the base of my neck to the top of my neck. people talking hurts my head, especially trying to talk on the phone. my heart is pounding. (i normally have tachycardia which they do not know the cause of. heartrate of 110+ all the time with short intervals of a heart rate in the 70's every few minutes. it's called inappropriate sinus node tachycardia. currently now that i'm sick with this thing, my lowest heartrate is dropping down in the low points to 112, never dropping below that.) lymph nodes are not swollen.

is this a virus or bacteria?

i have chronic sinus infections for the last year (with constantly bleeding sinuses.) could this be a sinus infection or is it too different?

also, about a month ago i got a bacterial infection that occurred as a slight sore throat in the afternoon that felt like FIRE by night. it came on fast, like a virus, but turned out to be a bacterial infection as 10 days later i was sick as ever and got better with antibiotics. my lymph nodes were never swollen from this.

lastly, i am on synthroid to try and shrink a thyroid nodule, even though my thyroid levels are normal. can this medication lower my immune system?

Sounds like you have the flu secondary to the guy on the plane. Best thing to do is over the counter meds to treat your symptoms and get rest and plenty of fluids. You could go to the doctor for cultures but that sounds premature. You need to be careful with antibiotics --you can build up a Resistance with over use. The flu bug takes a week to 10 days. Get better.

2.fetal stress: an abnormal condition of a fetus; usually discovered during pregnancy and characterized by an abnormal heart rhythm
3.fetus: the young of an animal in the womb or egg, esp. in the later stages of development when the body structures are in the recognizable form of its kind, in humans after the end of the second month of gestation.
4.hormone: any of various internally secreted compounds, as insulin or thyroxine, formed in endocrine glands, that affect the functions of specifically receptive organs or tissues when transported to them by the body fluids.
5.menstrual cycle: a recurring cycle (beginning at menarche and ending at menopause) in which the endometrial lining of the uterus prepares for pregnancy; if pregnancy does not occur the lining is shed at menstruation; "the average menstrual cycle is 28 days"
6.menstration: the periodic discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus, occurring approximately monthly from puberty to menopause in no pregnant women and females of other primate species.
7.ovary: the female gonad or reproductive gland, in which the ova and the hormones that regulate female secondary sex characteristics develop.

...okay

I am very ill and i need serious advice?

It started 3 weeks ago. I was sick for a week with what seemed like the flu, i had all the classic symptoms (aches, nausea, dizzy, cough, very high fever). Then i just started to get better like it ran its course.

Now i am sick again and today is day 5. But it's different now.

aching eyes and eye sockets, body aches, low grade fever. clogged sinuses, uncontrollable coughing, wheezing. i am 10 times worse at night. i have not slept in 3 days. i have tried sleeping sitting up and i do pass out from exhaustion but i wake up coughing within about 20minutes. Im coughing so hard i can't keep any food down. The worst part is that it is getting harder and harder to breath. Nothing i have taken helps with the congestion in my head so i am left breathing through my mouth which leads to spasm-like dry coughing and gagging.

The lymph nodes on the right side of my neck are swollen and getting bigger with each passing day.

I have been sick many times in the past but i feel like this is going to kill me. The doctors office is not open because its the weekend but i do want to go tomorrow. I just need adequate advice to prove to my husband that i NEED to go to the doctor so that he will take me because he refuses. he thinks it will run its course again.

it feels like some sort of sinus infection that has spread to my lungs and turned into pneumonia... 4 days ago i was blowing out clear mucus with blood in it but now the only thing thats coming out is thick clear mucus. (out of my nose only, my cough is no longer productive.) I know this can't be a good sign because usually by now i am blowing out the infection and the mucus changes colors to signal the end is drawing near.

Husband has me taking mucinex DM and tylenol. The fever is staying within the 99's but my other symptoms are only getting worse and worse and the fever comes back as soon as the tylenol wears off.

Around 6am i took a cocktail of meds. I found some penicillin leftover from last year. I took one of those, two maximum strength tylenol, one mucinex, and a lunesta to give me that extra push i need to fall asleep since i don't have anything else. Not even an hour later I had a bad coughing fit and puked it all up. I have since puked 3 more times. I have nasal spray but despite it saying it works for 12 hours it only affects me for about 30minutes before im clogged again. I feel like if i can't get help this crap is going to kill me and i cant seem to get this message through to my husband. He has been sleeping peacefully for the last 5 hours while i am up gasping and struggling to breathe.

I do have asthma and do not currently have an inhaler. It went stale in august last yr and i forgot to get it refilled because the only time i need it is when i am sick like right now.

Please give me advice I can use to persway my husband to take me to the doctor. I asked almost this very same question yesterday and people gave me retarded answers like its allergies, allergic reaction to the medicine, someone said it was due to lack of sleep.. and a "certified pharmacist" told me to stop taking medication completely! PLEASE don't repeat those suggestions. I need something I can use.

thank you so much if you can help me. i just accepted a vicodin from a friend because i am very desperate...........

you can try asking a doctor online :-) i hope this helps and wish for you to get better soon :-)
