What is the likelihood of twins vs multiples (twins, etc.) on clomid?

I've read so many different statistics, which vary widely, on how much clomid will increase my chances of having multiples. I have no history of it in my family, and though my husband has identical twin sisters, that should have no effect. I'm a bit paranoid, because I started experiencing symptoms very early. Any baby would be a blessing, but twins will mean having to quit my job and do day care from my home. How many people had singles vs. multiples on clomid?

You have a 10% increase in risk of twins with clomid. That is only for fraternal twins (identical is totally random). If you are on Clomid you do have a slightly higher risk than normal (10%), but that is still only 1 in 10 pregnancies. Good luck! :)

How does Clomid increase your chances of having twins or more?

I know Clomid stimulates your ovaries & releases egg(s) but how does it increase your chances of Clomid releasing more than 2 eggs when that can still happen without Clomid? also can you still get twins on 50mg on clomid? not just 100mg?

Yea, it increases your risk slightly. I think it was like 8% but without the med it is still something like 4%. With the more intense drugs it goes up to 20%

I want to have twins, will clomid work?

I don't have a problem conceiving. I just want to have twins. I also heard there is a generic brand of clomid sold at walmart. Does anybody know what it is?

Clomiphene citrate is now available as a generic. It's available at any pharmacy (including Wal-Mart's) with a doctor's prescription.

But no doctor is going to prescribe Clomid (generic or brand name) just so you can SLIGHTLY increase your odds of having twins. In fact, when doctors DO prescribe Clomid, they do their best to minimize the odds of multiple births, since multiples (even twins) are more likely to be miscarried, born prematurely, or have medical problems.

Can clomid increase the chance of twins even after you quit taking it?

I am wondering if the hormonal effects that cause hyperstimulation of the ovaries can still linger after I quit taking clomid. I took clomid one cycle and stopped after that. I got pregnant the following cycle. I go in for a scan in a few weeks. I am wondering if the chance of twins may still be greater since I used clomid the month before. Thanks!

Clomid can stay in your body for 30+ days, so it is possible to still feel the effects of Clomid the following cycle.

Its probably just a very residual effect though.

Congratulations and good luck!

Clomid...My friend wants to take it to make her chances better for twins.?

Does anyone on here have personal experience or know of someone who had done this. She is about to come off the pill and has 3 children already, obviously she can fall pregnant, what are the chances of her dream coming true of clomid twins?

Question: What are the chances of having twins with Clomid?

Wondering if you'll get your own pair of "Clomid twins"? From the way the media paints fertility drugs and multiples, it can seem that everyone taking Clomid is bound to have twins, but that's not really true. What are your chances of having twins if you take Clomid?

Answer:
Generally speaking, Clomid causes twin pregnancies about 10% of the time, with less than 1% of Clomid pregnancies leading to triplets or higher order pregnancies. During clinical trials for Clomid, about 7% of pregnancies led to twins, about 0.5% of pregnancies led to triplets and 0.3% to quadruplets.

During the clinical trials of the twin pregnancies, 1 in 5 were identical twins, while 80% of the twin pregnancies were fraternal twins (not identical). (Identical twins come from one egg, not two.)

Some women ask their doctors to give them Clomid, not because they are having trouble getting pregnant, but just because they want to get pregnant with twins. There are risks that come with multiple pregnancies, though. You should think twice before purposely trying to get pregnant with twins.

Should You Get Pregnant with Twins On Purpose?
While it's impossible to know who will get pregnant with twins while taking Clomid, and who won't, there are some factors that may hint to an increased chance of getting pregnant with twins. Using a higher dosage than necessary may increase the risk of having twins. (Ironically, though, using a higher dosage of Clomid than necessary may also decrease the chances of pregnancy occurring at all, because higher doses of Clomid can create thick cervical mucus.)

Also, women taking Clomid who do not have trouble ovulating or getting pregnant, as well as women younger than 25, may have an increased risk of getting pregnant with twins while taking Clomid.

What Dosage of Clomid and on What Cycle Days Do You Take it to Increase Your Chances of Having Twins?

I really want the twin experience and I understand that Clomid increases the chances of having twins. Can you please tell me what dosage (how many milligrams) of Clomid you have to take to up your chances of having twins? Also, what cycle days are better to take Clomid? Thanks so much!!

They will not give you clomid to increase your chances of having twins. Beside clomid would be the least effective fertility drug to give you twins as it have the lowest rate of multiple birth.

Fertility drugs are for people who are infertile, not people who want twins.

Do you believe I have a good chance of conceiving twins if i currently was taking clomid?

I have already 2 daughters and is trying for a boy. I have 2 sets of fraternal twins in my family. My aunt who has girl girl and my first cousin who has boy girl. I am taking Clomid to help better my chances in conceiving, what do you think?

I visited my Dr a few weeks ago to begin our fertility treatments and he wants to start me on Clomid after my HSG. He explained that there is only a slight increase in the chance of multiples, he told me it was increased to 10-15%. Clomid can make you ovulate more than one egg, giving the sperm more to target, therefore leaving the possibility for conceiving multiples. More than one egg can be fertilized, but who knows if more then 1 will successfully implant :)

Good luck to you and lots baby dust!!!

Is it really likely to conceive twins on clomid?

My doctor just gave me a rx for clomid and i got the advise that it could cause multiples, but I know so many people on clomid and no ones ever had more than one baby so is it really a big possibility?

i have two friends one has a clomid baby girl & other one got twins clomid boys.no the possibility is not that high but docters like to say that because there have been cases where woman conceived twins, triplets & more while on clomid, but trust me the chances of that is very less if u r being monitered by ur docter..its just one in every 10 woman.i m going to start my first round of clomid very soon too.if ur docter is good then he will keep an eye on ur eggs & ovulation.i m going to take clomid along with some injections & my fertility docter has asked me to come in every 2 to 3 days for scanning so that they can keep an eye on how many eggs r released & so on.if u have any concerns then i suggest u call ur docter & ask everything in detail.

When taking Clomid, is the chances of having twins more?

I am going to my doctors next week to get on Clomid and was wondering if the chances are higher of having twins? Is it just by luck or does the medication make the risk higher. Thanks!

The medication makes the odds of multiples about 10%.
