What would be the Maximum dose of Acetaminophen I could take?

I weigh 160 lbs, and have a high tolerence to pain drugs. Ibuprophen is the only drug that seems to work?

Nothing else seems to work.

For adults and children 12 years of age and older, the recommended dose of acetaminophen is 650 to 1000 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not to exceed 4000 mg in 24 hours.

ibuprofen is a different type of drug, a NSAID. Do not exceed 3200 mg total daily dose. If gastrointestinal complaints occur, administer tablets with meals or milk. It is advised to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals. Dosing: 300 mg qid (4 x daily); 400 mg, 600 mg or 800 mg tid (3xdaily) or qid(4x daily)

what is the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen?

The maximum daily dose of acetaminophen is 4000mg (4gm) per 24 hours.

what is the maximum amount of acetaminophen you can take in one dose?

I wouldn't take much more than 1,000mg at a time. You definitely don't want to take more than 4,000mg in a 24 hour period because it can cause serious liver damage.

acetaminophen overdose?

My friend took around 8000 mg of acetaminophen on Saturday night 2/9/08 last week. From what Ive been reading that is double the maximum dose of what a person should have in one day. She is only 100 pds and she took valium and vicodin on top of the aceptaminophen. A week later she seems fine but could there still be fatal liver damage going on? Or would it have shown up in 48-72 hours like all the books say?

Acetaminophen is also in vicodin, her liver is at risk.

The liver has a natural mechanism to protect it from the toxic metabolite that acetaminophen is turned into. But with high doses that protection is stripped away.

Diet can also effect the toxicity, alcohol use make it much more toxic. There is an antidote acetylcysteine, asparagus contains cysteine which also might be protective.

She needs to stop this activity, her behavior will make her need a new liver sometime soon if it does not kill her first.

She should see a doctor, blood tests can check for liver enzyme levels to gage her condition, maybe treatment is not too late.

I just took 3500mg of acetaminophen (apap) at once, am I gonna be okay?

Took it without realizing. I know the maximum is 4000mg, but that's a daily limit, not one dose. What will happen? Will I turn yellow or are the warnings for long term high dosages?

You'll be absolutely fine. You'll probably pee extreme yellow for a week or so but you'll physically be ok.

Is there a pill that has NO APAP (acetaminophen) and ONLY hyrdocodone?

I take 2-4 pills of NORCO 10/325 a day. Been doing it for over a year.

The maximum amount of acetaminophen for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day

** so I never take more than 4000 mg a day of acetaminophen.

**IF APAP is so bad, why do they put it in???

As of yet, they are not making hydrococodone just by itself. However, they do have Vicuprofen, which has hydrocodone and ibuprofen.
It works great, from what my patients tell me and you dont' have to worry about your liver like you do with all that tylenol.

Liver Damage?

A week ago I had a persistant migrane headache and took the maximum reccomended dose of tylenol (with acetaminophen) daily for just a little less than a week, AND had to go to the orthodonist to fix my teeth and was prescribed medication that is supposed to be harmful to the liver. I have had abdominal pains prior to taking the tylenol/other meds, but now the pains in the upper right quadrant of my chest (right around the liver) seem to be more persistant. After the tylenol/meds.. a new problem has arisen.. now whenever I scractch myself anywhere on my chest, a red mark immediately appears and stays for a few minutes. My skin has become much more sensitive and itchy. I also get reccurent chest pains on the left side of the chest beneath the rib cage but they seem to be less frequent than the right side. I think that I may have worsened some possibly pre-existing liver complications by taking the acetaminophen. My question is.... How can I determine whether or not I have liver damage?

There is only one way to determine if you have liver damage and that is with a blood test or with a liver biopsy.

What will happen if I take Vicodin/Norco for 2 or 3 years. 2-3 pills a day only?

I take 2-4 pills of NORCO 10/325 a day. Been doing it for over a year. What will happen.

The maximum amount of acetaminophen for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day

** so I never take more than 4000 mg a day of acetaminophen.

If you're liver is healthy and you're using the medication for physical pain, nothing will happen.
If you haven't had a complete work up recently, it's probably time. Just to make sure the liver and kidneys are functioning well.
My doctor says 12 Norco is the maximum daily dose. The tylenol is the reason for the limit.
