Fetal Risk Summary
No reports linking the use of primaquine with congenital defects have been located. Primaquine may cause hemolytic anemia in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Pregnant patients at risk for this disorder should be tested accordingly (1). If possible, the drug should be withheld until after delivery (2).
